Building off the original Ludwig cross-over Oak shell formula that has been adored by players for the last ten years, Classic Oak combines Oak and Maple to deliver a full-bodied tone with incredible balance, focus, and power. With a striking new finish, Classic Oak joins it's sibling, Classic Maple as a powerful and dynamic drum set for professional players.
Shell
Classic Oak's exclusive 5-ply, 6.5mm cross-over shell is constructed with a 3-ply Maple core and American Red Oak inner and outer plies. Not traditional to most Oak designs, the Maple component of the shell keeps the low end of the Oak controlled, rounding out the tone beautifully compared to an all-Oak shell.
For greater stability throughout the shell, all Ludwig USA shells are constructed using Radio Frequency Shell Technology. RFST's unique bonding method, combined with a proprietary, time-tested adhesive is a process that uses Ludwig's historic bladder molds from the late-'60s to cure each shell evenly across it's entire surface. This construction method is a crucial element in delivering the classic Ludwig Sound in every shell they make.
Bearing Edge
With dual 45° bearing edges, Classic Oak shells offer superior focus, attack, and tuning stability. The 3-ply Maple core of the shell makes up the apex of the bearing edge, offering even contact between the bearing edge and drum head. The inner and outer plies of Oak optimize the attack and stick definition for a sound with warm presence and precise definition.
